Boyd and Irene Early Years

THE EARLY YEARS

Around 1950 Irene's family moved to South Gate from West Virginia, so the two boys wouldn't end up working in the Coal Mines. They lived across the street from my family. Boyd lived a block away, as a youngster he then moved around the corner from me. He was a tease, at around 12 when I became a junior high student, he chased me home because in those days when you entered junior high the older kids would smear you with lipstick, he didn't catch me. This was before he and Irene fell in love, I'm not sure when this started. I do know they got married (I didn't attend). The night of their wedding I believe my brother kidnapped Boyd and drove him to Hollywood. They settled into an apartment in South Gate, then I started dating Irene's brother Eddie, we spent a lot of time visiting them. We had a lot of fun; we played a lot of games and cards. One time we all went to Las Vegas, Eddie thought he could beat the system so he and Irene spent most of the early morning gambling, while Boyd and I spent our time walking the streets, needless to say they didn't win. We went to Dodger games together.
They decided they wanted to start a family, they moved into a house on San Vincente and adopted a baby boy (Michael), and so began their family, to be followed by two more children, Chris and Shannon. All of the kids were adorable. We had many wonderful memories at their house, we would spend Thanksgiving with them and one year Forrest Barbecued the Turkey. It was always a pleasure to be around their family. The older we got, the less time we spent together as everyone was always busy. Irene and I continued to go to movies and out to lunch occasionally, Eddie and his wife Diane would join us for lunch, even though Ed and I were divorced, we remained friends and Diane also became a friend.
I miss Irene and Boyd and all the memories we made together,
With Love Yvonne
